I have a 2 and half months old budgie. I got him when he was 2 weeks old and handfed him. He always loves hanging on our heads and shoulders. But he hates his cage so much. Since his weaning cage he never liked being in a cage. He’s been in a bigger cage for like 2 weeks now and he hates it as well. He never goes in the cage until he’s starving. He eats a few bites and then flies out. But when we hold the food for him or put his food outside the cage he eats alot. We only put him in the cahe during sleep time or when we are having lunch because he keeps trying to eat our food which is not good for him. And the cage is big enough and has alot of toyes. Any idea how to get him to like his cage?
your budgie might be thinking of the cage as a prison you can do one thing which is to place a food bowl inside the cage If he is hungry he will start eating and soon get used to his cage. here s an example you live inside your home and someone locks you in the bathroom at night. in this way, your bird is also comparing it with a jail. let him inside his cage for some weeks he will soon understand
Well, first your Budgie thinks your room and your home is his home too, and place of comfort, not his cage. What you need to teach him is that his cage is a place where he can feel safe. Never feed budgie outside his cage, give water, treats. We love our Budgies to feel freedom around our home, but their main home is inside his spacious cage too. So, your budgie needs to spend more time inside his cage.
